I have a Korean friend who came to the Philippines as a missionary. It was in 1995 when we met in a seminar and eventually became friends. We did not see each other again until 2004. I was in seminary for my applied linguistics course when I heard that he was in his last year in a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education course. In April 2005, we both graduated from different schools. Since then I have learned of the injustices he has gone through making it difficult for him to understand things. He asked me to pray for him that he will not be bitter towards God. My heart goes with him. He was made the accused after trying to speak the truth about how his organization is doing in the field. Later on, he found out that his name was not in the list of missionaries, making it appear that he himself resigned. This is just one of the events that happened to him. When he went back to his country, he was not paid for the several months he had worked. I was sad to have heard that. He was even thinking of sending money for missions.
He just emailed me that he is getting ready to enroll in a seminary while he works at night to pay his tuition fee. He still has the heart to serve God. His passion for the lost is still there. May my passion for God keep growing as my compassion for people grows too.
What a story--I pray that God will give him the grace to forgive and learn from his experience. And I hope that he will do well at seminary and find the path that God has for him.
