Did You Cast Your Vote?

Yesterday, a barangay election was held. The election in my barangay went well, but has created tension among the villagers, and even more in the church. Many seem to have voted someone because they are closely related to the candidate. On Sunday, while in the church, I observed that people were looked at as either a candidate running for a position, or someone who will vote for a specific candidate rather than a sister or brother in the Lord. Five people who were vying for the position of a Barangay Captain came from the church I go, one of whom is a first cousin while the sixth is a nephew but does not go to any church. I was writing this when I heard that he won the seat. Before the election, my nephew, (our eldest’s first son) was happy that I came home for he expects me to vote for him. He was tied with one of the candidates. Neither did I vote for my cousin nor my nephew for I do not subscribe to his philosophy. When he was a barangay councilor, he introduced a form of gambling.:)

I almost did not vote because it was raining until someone was sent to tell me that I could go and cast my vote now because there are no more people voting in the precinct where my name was. After the counting, one of my nieces gladly said, “See! If you have not voted, it would not have been tied!” I did not say anything. Nevertheless, when they drew lots, my nephew picked up the winning lot. I know there is a message behind these events. Nothing on earth happens without a purpose. My fear is that he might allow activities that would not honor God.

Ask me why I did not vote for my cousin, a former church leader? I though it might be time for him to get back to where he used to be. It did not bring good to his faith when he was in that position. Who say politics and church can not go together because politics is evil? Probably true but not always true. If I did not know a church leader and at the same time a public servant whose life has been exemplary, then I would say Christians should not join politics. He has been a barangay captain for a long time but has relinquished it and gave chance to others to serve. He could have won again if he had ran for the position. He was not that greedy unlike many politicians:). I wish there are more people like him who can stand the tests (and I pray he continues to…) of the flesh, world and lust. One of the bloggers can literally identify the people I have referred to.

Cheers eka ni tb at bb!:)

  1. hehe! that's so funny about insan being so happy that you went home to vote and he was thanking you profusely while in fact you did not vote for him... :)

well, I'm one of those who did not vote for anyone. I stayed home planning to get a headstart on the papers that I need to write but actually spent the whole day worrying about how on earth will I be able to manage to beat my deadline... sana umakyat na lang ako at bumoto kase nadagdagan lang naman ang gatla sa noo ko! hmmmppp

    Shalom 2-wa!
